FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Leading technology groups including CIPS, NPA, Culminis and VANTUG, plus local businesses are supporting 'IT Volunteering'.

Vancouver, BC, November 20, 2006. Graham Jones, Executive Director for 'IT Volunteering', announced today the formation of a purely volunteer not-for-profit organization committed to finding donated IT solutions and services for not-for-profit groups and charities. Local businesses are also showing their support for 'IT Volunteering' through sponsorship or by offering their services at no cost.

"Charities don't typically have the resources to take advantage of technology to better service their clients. We started 'IT Volunteering' to match committed IT professionals with these organizations," said 'IT Volunteering', founding Principal, Executive Director, Graham Jones, MVP. Graham joined forces with two other founding Principals, Jing Chen, a freelance developer and user interface specialist, and Stephen Ibaraki, CIPS VP and Fellow and another Microsoft MVP. "Graham's vision, and Jing's technical abilities provided the impetus for this worthy program," said Stephen Ibaraki FCIPS, I.S.P. "We would like to help new immigrants find work and volunteering is a great way to get started", said founding Principal, Jing Chen.

"Volunteering is about generosity and generosity is giving without conditions. Involvement is the only true way to experience the personal peace it brings. The appreciation of those you help cannot be matched. The excitement and pleasure just radiates from them", said Graham Jones.

Current clients include:

  • The Neil Squire Society (www.neilsquire.ca): "The laptops and screen recording software that 'IT Volunteering' supplied have been a boon to our distance learning program", said Chad Leaman, Distance Learning Coordinator.
  • The Surrey Food Bank (www.surreyfoodbank.com): "The people at 'IT Volunteering' are very enthusiastic and professional in their approach. The Surrey Food Bank is pleased to be partnering with these new volunteers", said Marilyn Herrmann, Executive Director.
  • The BC Paraplegic Association (www.bcpara.org): "The BCPA is very pleased to have the assistance of IT Volunteering", said Nathaniel Fernandez, IT Manager.

Stephen Ibaraki I.S.P., CIPS Vice-President emphasizes, "It's all about community and the tremendous resource IT professionals represent." "I agree," follows James Belasco, NPA Board Chairman, "there is no greater community than IT practitioners who lead with their hearts." "Giving is one of the pillars for our organizations," says Dave Sanders, CEO and Founder of Culminis. "'IT Volunteering' exemplifies our values!"
