Microsoft chooses the MVPs from over 100 million information, communication and technology (ICT) workers around the world. Stephen Ibaraki was one of the 3,800 chosen from over 90 countries to form the global body of top-ranking experts in more than 90 technologies.
Ibaraki was also honoured as an MVP in 2006 but this was the first year that Microsoft went the extra step of highlighting five outstanding ICT professionals at the week-long MVP Global Summit held in Seattle earlier this month.... [see more] ....."
- The Daily Courier; Tuesday, April 24, 207; Section Business Page B7; Byline Steve MacNaull; "…Similar to sports, MVPs are technology's best and brightest"; Extracts:
"To determine who makes its annual international MVP list, software colossus Microsoft considers all 200 million computer professionals worldwide. So it's pretty amazing to be named one of the 3,800 MVPs, and even more astounding to make the super list of only five."
"Microsoft doesn't publicize an exact criteria for picking its MVPs and super list. What is known is that Microsoft employees aren't eligible, but anyone else in the world working in the computer and information technology realms is. MVPs, which stands for most valuable professionals, are technology's best and brightest."
"The job took him to Vancouver, where he eventually became a technology professor... Through his teaching career of 25 years, Ibaraki found time to volunteer and found ways that computer professionals and technology can help charities. For instance, he's involved with ITvolunteering.org, an organization that links computer volunteers with charities.
